“Happy Birthday America!”
July 5, 2006I have heard that used for July 4th and thought it was catchy. But after thinking about it, it’s really more like “Happy 18th Birthday.” Because July 4, 1776 is not so much when we were born, it’s when were got big enough to move out of ‘the big house’ with ‘Mom’ (the Queen) followed by a huge argument. Well okay, it was a war. Anyway you get the idea.
We managed to get in a little beach time before watching the fireworks. We thought the afternoon would be less crowded… nope. The beaches were fine, but there was nowhere to park. We wound up farther down Coronado where the hotels are and where the military beach starts (military beach? Yeah, ID required.) It was actually nice because the day was beautiful, we brought deli sandwiches, there were rocks behind us, and nothing but beach & water in front of us.
Okay, no comments on my bad farmer tan. It just comes with the territory. I should also mention that Camden is standing in a hole, which is why Kira appears about an inch taller than him. The water is quite cold at first, but after walking around in it a bit with the kids I wish I had worn my suit, because it felt nice. As you can tell the kids had no problems.
Happy 4th! …or 18th, …or Independence Day, …whatever.
