Here is the first video of our new puppy, Toby, learning about a football. He surprised the kids in the garage by barking at the ball when he got spooked by the way it moved. We caught a little bit on the our camera so that you could see his personality. It just oozes cuteness.

TrackbackBut, it’s not what you might think. Yesterday we picked up an 8-week old puppy from a dog rescue. We found him online and yesterday was our first opportunity to see him. The individual who had him rescues dogs and takes in puppies. She had taken the litter to Pet People in Clairmont and that’s where we got him.
He had already been given the name Toby. We initially planned to change it, but the kids had already become attached to it and so the name stuck. He is supposed to be a mix of Australian Shepherd and Pointer. But, I… don’t… know… There seems to be something else going on in there.
We have had mixed emotions about getting a puppy, especially me. I have just felt that it wasn’t a good time to be adding “something new to manage.” But as my Mom pointed out (second only to what Steph already had said) was that it’s not all about me. The kids could really benefit from learning about a puppy at this hectic time in our lives. And it’s clear the Mommy is looking forward to the distraction from the daily grind, too.
It’s more work, more schedule to manage, and some sleepless nights (dang-it). But one face licking attack by a bounding mush of loving puppy makes one forget all the effort.
