Oh…he didn’t…

Oh yes he did!  That IS a real guitar the man has purchased, along with the case and amp to go with it.  Did I say a mid-life crisis was brewing? !  Well, I’m afraid this is only the start……

We couldn’t resist taking a picture of our now “official” vehicle…woohoo!  Looks like I might be spending more time in it when, uh, practice sessions are becoming more frequent (haha).

The sun sets in the West

May 29, 2006

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!  We have had a nice relaxing time so far.  Yesterday, we made an impromptu visit to La Jolla, which is 15-20 minutes north of here.  It is an extremely ritzy area, where people have gobs of money and flashiness.  However, it also boasts some of the most beautiful scenery you can imagine.

We visited the tide pools, which are very neat in the winter months.  Apparently, all kinds of sea creatures come up to the shores where you can experience them…even small octopus!  Down the way, there is a sea wall built around a little cove where the sea lions and harbor seals naturally live.  The kids thought it was really cool & so did we!  Here’s a link about La Jolla  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Jolla,_California

We headed down the coast after dinner, and found an amazing gliderport which is located literally off a cliff.  The guys are paragliding..think of a small fabric seat suspended by a parachute and steered only by the glider pulling on tethers and shifting their weight.  Over the ocean!  It was really cool, but you won’t catch me up there!  The best part was watching the sun set into the Pacific Ocean while sitting on those cliffs.  That, was a spectacular moment.

Today we took the ferry across to Coronado island (along with every other tourist in San Diego), but it was nice to explore by foot a little.  Many people rent bikes to go around the island.  We have been over there before to see the famous hotel as well as the beaches.  It was a bit far to walk today though.  Today the sun finally broke through the clouds..yeah!  Hopefully tomorrow it will stick around.  Here’s some good info about Coronado.  http://www.coronadovisitorcenter.com/

We finally saw the beautiful weather that we came here for yesterday. It was a spectacular day & we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make our first real visit to the beach. There are so many different ones here, that I think you just have to keep exploring to find the one that suits you, and from what we hear, the tourists don’t know about!

So the kids of course had a blast and they got their first lessons in rough seas. The currents were really strong and the lifeguards kept telling surfers they were too far out. They did have to go out and get 2 girls who were just being dumb. Camden was all into that as they drive around the beach in red pickups & have the cool lifesaving stuff! Kira was just content to play in the biggest sandbox & just looks like she was born a California girl :0)

After the beach, (we were south of San Diego at Imperial Beach….darn close to Mexico!) the kids konked out and we drove North to Pacific Beach. This place, is the epitome of a college beach town. There is nothing but shops, bars, surfers and young beach goers! We had been up here before when Rob & I visited but it was just a bit busier now then in October. Our quest was for bikes (NOT motorcycles!) since we thought we could go a lot of places if we all had bikes & some sort of contraption to pull the kids. We found a cool bike shop, that reminded us of the guys on the show “Orange County Choppers”! The guys were tatooed and looked more like Harley guys than bicycle guys, but knew a lot about them. Apparently mountain bikes are not the mode of choice, but something called a beach cruiser. Think Pee Wee Herman’s bike but a little hipper! We are still mulling it over, but they are having a big sale today so we’ll see…..

Today there is a Sicilian (of course) festival in our neighborhood. A huge busload of Italians come from LA every year for it so it should be interesting! Have a great week!
